“Non uso le piste ciclabili perché sono pericolose”
The response
È vero che in molti paesi le vie ciclabili sono poco sicure, o di scarsa qualità. Viceversa, questo non significa che le piste ciclabili debbano obbligatoriamente esserlo.
Le tecniche per progettare delle piste ciclabili che permettano degli spostamenti sicuri, confortevoli ed efficaci sono conosciute. È sufficiente studiare e ispirarsi agli esempi dei Paesi Bassi e della Danimarca. Questi due paesi, che hanno le reti ciclabili più dense al mondo, hanno anche largamente i migliori risultati in termini di sicurezza in bici.
Le piste ciclabili ben pensate limitano al minimo le interazioni e i punti di conflitto con gli autoveicoli, e assicurano che dove gli incroci sono inevitabili questi avvengano a velocità ridotte, che la visibilità reciproca sia buona, e che per tutti sia chiaro come comportarsi.
